Dewey Slusher climbed Mount Le Conte 14 times February after 12 in January, breaking Ed Wright's records for the winter months. Wright made 11 February hikes in 1991--on his way to an annual record of 230--and 10 the following January.
LeContest.com has been tracking hiking records for more than a decade and has the logbooks for Wright as well as Ron Valentine, Paul Dinwiddie, and Margaret Stevenson.

Wright, like Slusher, enjoyed hiking in snow. His lifetime total of 1,310 hikes included 68 in January. He also made eight January hikes in 1993 (on his way to 107) and seven three times, including in 1991 on his way to 230.
Ron Valentine started 2002 and 2004 with five January hikes, on his way to 101 in 2002 and 77 in 2004. Ron's records prior to 2000 were lost in a fire, but we estimate he had 3,000 Le Conte hikes.
Larry Russell made five trips in January 2024, on his was to a career high of 122.
Dewey on on the verge of becoming the 20th hiker with 500 climbs on Le Conte. His climb Feb. 24 was his 498th lifetime and 25th this year.
