Detour de Le Conte

Bullhead Trail has been closed by storm damage, but that didn’t stop four friends from Chattanooga who completed the Tour de Le Conte on Nov. 1-2. It was the second tour this year for Travis Keeton and Jason Blair. They returned to hike with their friends Clay Dyer and Chris Gaither, who had suggested they try the Tour but had not been able to make it in August. The 45.1-mile tour took 19 hours and 51 minutes. They started at 4:32 a.m. Monday Nov. 1 and finished all six trails at 12:14 a.m. Tuesday. Starting in Greenbrier, they went up Brushy Mountain, down Boulevard, up Alum Cave, down Bullhead, up Rainbow, and down Trillium Gap. On Bullhead, they had to climb over, under, and around several blown-down trees. They were two days ahead of the first snow of the season. Chris’s 14-year-old son Caleb also hiked the first four legs with the group. There have been 20 tours completed in 2021.
