As LeConte Lodge marked the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, a hiker named Sandy left her own mark on the mountain. Sandy Martin logged her 100th climb on Wednesday, Nov. 2. There are now 82 men and 20 women who have reached this milestone on the LeContest honor roll. Sandy did it in a hurry, with 20 climbs in 2022. The lifetime record for women is 718 ascents by Margaret Stevenson. Hurricane Sandy dumped 34 inches of snow on the lodge at Halloween in 2012. Here’s the report from the lodge blog for Oct. 31, 2012.
